A Little Longer in Indy
The Belgium Consulate in New York decided they loved Ryan's Documents so much, we stayed a little longer in Indiana. (insert sarcasm here) This post is just some more pictures of fun we had during our extended hotel stay in Indianapolis.

| An INSANE bike ride along White River. Molly almost made us drive right into the river. (hehe) She may comment below, but here is proof she was the driver...She is in the driver's seat that controls the direction the bike goes. My steering wheel was just something to hang onto. |

YES! Yes, Molly will definitely leave a comment below!!
ReplyDeleteThe TRUTH (aka Molly's recollection of the bike ride pictured above. This picture was our "before" picture. With the exception of Chloe (she was irritated that I wasn't following her clear and precise instructions/directions in a timely manor), everyone is excited, smiling and SAFE. Notice that there is no "after" picture. That would be because I was about to die of a heat stroke (it was 90+ degrees, the driver's position also seems to be where you feel the instantaneous drag when the "little's" in back decided to see what would happen if they started pedaling backwards and the person Chloe directed all of her commentary). Since my incredibly I
mature older sister [insert sarcasm here] decided to "help" by continually ring the bell, begin a never-ending song of Old McDonald and laugh instead of pedaling, I thought it only fair that she take over the driver's seat at the 1/2 point. I IMMEDIATELY regretted my decision.
On our return trip, our two little's in the front ate or were lashed by a half dozen tree branches, narrowly escaped 2 head on collisions (yielding to others is not in her vocabulary); followed by a closer than necessary diversion of an 8' chain link fence (and subsequent almost barrel roll). As we all collected ourselves (the 2 adults fearful that they would be the ones walking around in wet pants), Reece innocently points out the body of water that was now in front of us, and proclaims it to be the Wabash River (it was the White River). Could my sister, the teacher, let it be just this once. Nope! "Ok Reece-man! Do you want to see the White River?" Of course, he replied an enthusiastic "Yes!"
This is where that life flashing before your eyes moments happens. Amie decides that since is a bit of a steep grade, we need a bit of a running start. I agreed and soon regretted. What I thought was going to be a gentle, fairly slow drive up to the concrete barricade was soon replaced by Wonder Woman to my left, who decided that just wouldn't do. As we gain speed, getting closer and closer to the concrete wall in front of us and White River below us, I hear the nearly fatal laughter of my sister exclaim, "i don't know how to brake!". By this point Reece was trying to jump out of the burning building so to speak, Chloe yelling at me, & Rylee and Gwen screeching. I screamed for everyone to shut up, yanked the wheel to the right and applied the brakes...all from the passenger seat. Needless to say, our bike ride was over even if our minutes weren't up. HaHa!
I think back on this bike ride almost every day. If there ever was a short film depicting each of our personalities, relationships with one another with a scenario typical of our "normal", this day would've been it. She makes me laugh when it's been so long, I thought I forgot how. She is predictably unpredictable, navigationally challenged, instigator of children and her best attribute- makes me feel important, loved, grounded, and happy. Do I love her? Yes, more than she'll ever know. Do I love her enough to let her blog post go uncorrected...NOT A CHANCE! Lol!
I am not sure I recall the trip going quite like this. I really feel like my version has the most truth. 😜. However, I do like that I was the one concerned that all were having fun. Like ringing the broken bell when Molly refused to share the road with other riders and singing songs with the children. Lol! I even wanted to share the love of butterflies with my nephew, only to be poo-pooed. Sigh. At LEAST one of us knows how to have fun. Lol! This was such a fun crazy bike ride.
ReplyDeleteIf multiple near-death experiences was your method of ensuring fun, then be sure we had an absolute BLAST! Lol! I wouldn't have it any other way. It was an undeniably McCormick sister experience.
